X-RAYS OF YOUR CHEST, SKULL, EXTREMITY, ABDOMEN, PELVIS, ETC.

This fact sheet is designed to give you general information about your x-ray. Any individual problems or questions should be directed to your physician.

When You Arrive in the X-Ray Department:

Depending on the type of x-ray exam you are to have, you may be asked to change into a gown so that no buttons, snaps, or metal will interfere with the examination. If you are to have skull or sinus x-rays, you will be asked to remove dentures, hairpins, earrings, or glasses.

After The X-Ray:

1. After the x-ray technician has completed your x-rays, you will be asked to return to the reception area. This is to give the technician time to assemble your films and examine their quality.

2. If no additional films are needed, the technician will ask you to return to your room or to the clinic which requested the x-ray examination.

3. A radiologist - a doctor who specializes in x-rays - will interpret your films and report the results to your doctor, who in turn, will discuss them with you.

Please Remember:

Do not be disturbed if you see other patients and visitors come and go while you are in the x-ray department. Not all patients are having the same type of x-ray exam - different types of exams require different amounts of time.

* If we can be of further assistance to make your visit in our department more comfortable, please do not hesitate to ask any staff member.
